The Water Framework Directive 'water environment' among other water categories includes also so-called 'surface water bodies' (SWB) and 'groundwater bodies' (GWB).

Member States have delineated SWBs in the river basin districts and reported different data to characterize water bodies such as length (rivers) or area (lakes), national type, and information if a surface water body is designated as heavily modified or artificial.

Likewise, Member States have delineated GWBs in the river basin districts and reported different data to characterize water bodies such as area, aquifer type (porous, fissured...), productivity (high, moderate...).

These dashboards provide an overview of results related to delineation of water bodies.
