Description parameter
Average winter concentration with surface derived using model. With 48 umol/l for coastal waters, 24.7 umol/l for territorial waters and 11.9 umol/l offshore.
Average winter concentration with surface derived using model. With 1.1 umol/l for coastal waters, 0.7 umol/l for territorial waters and 0.6 umol/l offshore.
Average calculated based on 90-percentile of chlorophyll a (average for 2011-2016) during growing season based on remote sensing. With 19.3 ug/l for coastal waters, 17.6 µg/l for territorial waters and 7.6 µg/l offshore.

Description overall status
The eutrophication assessment in the frame of WFD only covered the 1 nm, the assessment has been redone for the whole area based on an updated dataset (all data are to be used for normalization to salinity). The indicators for eutrophication show that ca. 30 % of the Belgian marine zone did not achieve a good environmental status: No good status for the Belgian coastal waters (1 nm), the territorial zone (12 nm) is evolving to a good status and offshore (> 12 nm) has achieved a good status.
