Method used
BLK-BG-AA-Coastal: The threshold for GES is determined as the 37% (EQR = 0.63) deviation from the baseline, consistent with the concept applied to limit the WFD good / moderate ecological status. The baseline is determined to be the lower quartile of data series for the period 1990-2011. To baseline for the open seas assessment area is based on published data (Yunev et al., 2007)
BLK-BG-AA-Coastal: Biological diversity indexes
BLK-BG-AA-Coastal: To baseline condition for the coastal and shelf assessment areas is determined as the 90th percentile of the long data series for the 1991-2011. The baseline condition for the open seas is based on historical data for the reference period for the Black Sea ecosystem (Vladimirov et al., 1997)
BLK-BG-AA-Coastal: The threshold value is estimated as the upper 95% confidence interval. The baseline condition is assessed using mean value and the 95% confidence interval for the reference period 1967-1973
BLK-BG-AA-Coastal: Field measurement of the concentration of phosphates (µM/l) in the coastal, shelf and open sea assessment areas during the spring and summer months for the period 2000-2011
BLK-BG-AA-Coastal: The baseline is determined based on data from the 1960-1970 reference period of the Black Sea ecosystem. The threshold for GES is calculated as the 37% (EQR = 0.63) deviation from the baseline, in consistency with the determination of the threshold between good/moderate environmental status in the Water Framework Directive
BLK-BG-AA-Coastal: Field measurement of the concentration of nitrates (µM/l) in the coastal, shelf and open sea assessment areas during the spring and summer months for the period 2000-2011

BLK-BG-AA-Coastal: Field measurement of the oxygen saturation (OS%) in the upper homogeneous layer of the coastal, shelf and open sea assessment areas during the spring and summer months for the period 2000-2011
BLK-BG-AA-Coastal: Determination of the MSY, SSB and the percentage of adult individuals for three commercially exploited fish species (sprat (Sprattus sprattus), anchovy (Engraulis encrasicolus) and Black Sea turbot(Scophthalmus maeoticus))
BLK-BG-AA-Coastal: Analysis of the trends in the long-term data series of the hydrographic characteristics
BLK-BG-AA-EmineSozopol: The GES is described by determination of the threshold and baseline values from field studies in accordance with the Water Framework Directive
BLK-BG-AA-GalataEmine: The GES is described by determination of the threshold and baseline values from field studies in accordance with the Water Framework Directive
BLK-BG-AA-KaliakraGalata: The GES is described by determination of the threshold and baseline values from field studies in accordance with the Water Framework Directive
BLK-BG-AA-OpenSea: The method for assessing the GES is laid down in Ordinance Number 4 from 14.09.2012 on the characterization of the surface waters. Although there are national standards for contaminants, there are not enough data for determination of the threshold and baseline values for the 2006-2011 assessment period.
