GES description |
Overall assessment: GES is achieved if the proportion of habitats in good status from all representative habitats in the MRU is 100 % - all habitat shall be in good status. One habitat is allowable to be in not good status on the condition that no more than 20 % of its total natural extent at national level is adversely affected and no more than 20 % of the total seabed in the MRU is adversely affected.
D6C4: The extent of habitat loss resulting from anthropogenic pressures does not exceed 5 % of the total extent of the habitat type in the assessment area, relative to baseline in early 1980s.
D6C5: The extent of adverse effects from anthropogenic pressures on the condition of the habitat type, including habitat loss, does not exceed 20 % of the natural extent of the habitat type in the assessment area.
D6C3: The threshold value for absence of adverse effects of physical disturbance from fisheries is SAR ≤ 0.2. Swept Area Ratio - SAR
D2C2: The threshold value for absence of adverse effects from the invasive species Rapana venosa is Bivalves/Rapana biomass ratio ≥ 10.
D3C3: The threshold value for the size structure of the population of the commercially-exploited bivalve Donax trunculus is L95 ≥ 33.78 mm.
D5C8, D7C2, D8C2, D8C4: The threshold value for adverse effects from pressures, including under criteria D5C8, D7C2, D8C2, D8C4 is EQR M-AMBI(n) ≥ 0.68 corresponding to good status. |
Spatial extent and distribution of physical loss (permanent change) of the natural seabed. |
Spatial extent and distribution of physical disturbance pressures on the seabed. |
The spatial extent of each habitat type adversely affected by physical disturbance. |
The extent of habitats subjected to physical loss. |
The extent of adverse effects from anthropogenic pressures on the condition of the habitat type does not exceed a specified proportion of the natural extent of the habitat type in the assessment area. |

Justification for non-use of criterion |
The D6C2 descriptor is not applied on the seabed within or in the vicinity of seagrass and macroalgal habitats due to the lack of relevant information for the presence, magnitude and/or spatial extent of the pressure. |

Justification for delay in setting EU/regional requirements |
The D6C2 descriptor is not applied on the seabed within or in the vicinity of seagrass and macroalgal habitats due to the lack of relevant information for the presence, magnitude and/or spatial extent of the pressure. |
Currently, a threshold value of adversely affected seagrass habitat area is not applied due to the lack of a relevant spatial coverage of point data for both pressures and impacts on the bottom vegetation.
In addition, spatial data for seagrass meadows extent from a pristine period are missing. Baseline spatial coverage of all seagrass meadows to be used instead is also missing (data for different meadows are available from different years). Criteria for meadow-specific "adverse" effects are to be developed. |
Spatial data for seagrass meadows extent from a pristine period are missing. Baseline spatial coverage of all seagrass meadows at a time to be used instead is also missing (data for different meadows are available from different years). Because of the above-mentioned reasons the GES criteria of less than 5 % spatial coverage admissible lost is applied to the available spatial extent of each meadow (e.g. for the year for which it is available). |
Currently, a threshold value of adversely affected seagrass and macroalgae habitat area is not applied due to the lack of a relevant spatial coverage of the point assessments for some pressures and all impacts on the bottom vegetation.
In addition, spatial data for seagrass meadows extent from a pristine period are missing. Baseline spatial coverage of all seagrass meadows to be used instead is also missing (data for different meadows are available from different years).
Some criteria for pressure-specific and meadow-specific "adverse" effects are to be developed. |
