Description parameter
At present, there is insufficient knowledge of the effect of impulse sound on marine animals. Therefore, no thresholds have yet been set for which levels are compatible with good environmental conditions, either nationally or internationally. EU work is currently underway to set thresholds for impulse sound. The current assessment is based on an analysis of the number of days where man-made impulse noise occurs, as well as an analysis of how high the levels of noise are on a five-step scale from very high to very low.

Description overall status
Analyzes show that noisy activities were recorded in the Danish marine areas in the North Sea and the Northern Kattegat in 2015. The sound level is characterized as being at a level that can have a detrimental effect. The majority of the Danish marine areas are affected by impulse noise for less than 10 days.
