Further information on obstacle (Description)
The project is not found to be relevant at this time. There have been several new projects in EU, HELCOM and OSPAR, respectively, where the goal has been to develop a similar bottom fauna index. ICES has in June 2017 (commissioned by the European Commission) evaluated the results of this research. ICES has not been able to unambiguously point out which method approach is the most useful. Certainty about the methodological approach is a prerequisite for the Danish EPA's planned project on developing a bottom fauna index to result in a technically adequate product. The project has therefore been withdrawn and replaced by a project regarding the presence of ghost nets in Danish waters. The new project will contribute to the Danish MSFD work under descriptor 10.

Brief description of progress (measurement of effectiveness of measure)
The sites were designated nationally in 2016, however the proces to implement fisheries regulering has been delaying the final implementation. Final implementation is expected when the EU Commission passes the delegated fisheries regulation based on a joint resolution which will be send to the EU Commission in the spring 2019.
The changed legislation will be used to protect MPAs in Kattegat see measure ANSDK-M003-N
