Legal status
MIM acts on behalf of the Minister of Environment, as well as the Danish Government, on matters relating to the environment.
Responsibilities
MIM and the Danish Environmental Protection Agency are responsible for implementation of the Marine Strategy Framework Directive in Denmark: The initial assessment (MSFD Art. 8, 9, and 10), the monitoring programme (MSFD Art. 11) and the programme of measures (MSFD Art. 13) according to statutory declaration no. 1161 of 25/11/2019 and statutory order no. 1514 of 25/06/2021. The Danish Environmental Protection Agency reports to the EU-Commission according to the provisions in the Marine Strategy Framework Directive.

Membership
MIM is responsible for the coordination among Government Authorities of the implementation of the MSFD.
Regional coordination
MIM and the Danish Environmental Protection Agency represent Denmark in the regional sea conventions OSPAR and HELCOM, and contribute to regional and EU work regarding threshold values, methodological standards, determination of good environmental status, common monitoring programmes and programmes of measures.

MFVM is responsible for the implementation of the Marine Strategy Framework Directive in Denmark (the initial assessment (MSFD Art. 8, 9, and 10) and the programs of measures (MSFD Art. 13)). MFVM reports to the EU-Commission according to the provisions in the Marine Strategy Framework Directive. The Danish Environmental Protection Agency is responsible for the establishment of the Danish monitoring programs (MSFD Art. 11) according the statutory order no. 95 of 28/01/2019 paragraph 30. The Danish Environmental Protection Agency reports to the EU-Commission according to the provisions in the Marine Strategy Framework Directive.

Members of the group are: Ministry of Transport, Danish Coastal Protection Agency, Danish Maritime Safety Administration, Danish Maritime Authority, Ministry of Finance, Danish Energy Agency, Danish Fisheries Agency, Danish Environmental Protection Agency, National Survey and Cadastre and Heritage Agency of Denmark.
Regional coordination
MFVM is representing Denmark in the regional sea conventions OSPAR and HELCOM as well as the CIS work. MFVM contributes to regional an EU work regarding establishment of threshold values, methodological standards, determination of good environmental status, common monitoring programs and programs of measures. MFVM participates in working groups and technical groups at regional and EU level.

Legal status
Danish Nature Agency (NST) is a government agency under The Ministry of the Environment. NST acts on behalf of the Danish Government according to delegation in Statutory Order no. 1411 of 8 December 2010. According to this the NST is in charge of administrative and research tasks in the area of environmental protection, nature protection, forestry and planning.
Responsibilities
NST is according to Statutory Order 1411 responsible for the implementation of Act. No. 522 of 26 May 2010 (on Marine Strategies) and consequently responsible for the implementation of the Marine Strategy Framework Directive in Denmark. In Denmark the environment administration at state level is managed by the Ministry of the Environment. At the regional and local levels, much of the administrative responsibility has been delegated to municipalities. The Danish Nature Agency reports to the EU-Commission according to the provisions in the Marine Strategy Framework Directive.

NST is responsible for the coordination among Government Authorities of the implementation of the MSFD and Act. No. 522. NST has formed a coordination group between relevant authorities. Members of the group are: Ministry of Transport, Danish Coastal Protection Agency, Danish Maritime Safety Administration, Danish Maritime Authority, Ministry of Finance, Danish Energy Agency, Danish Fisheries Agency, Danish Environmental Protection Agency, Ministry for Food, Fisheries and Agriculture, National Survey and Cadastre, Heritage Agency of Denmark and Danish Nature Agency (Chairman).
Regional coordination
NST is representing Denmark in the regional sea conventions OSPAR and HELCOM, and these are the main fora for coordination in Danish waters. Besides Denmark, Sweden, Norway and Germany have initiated a joint cooperation project on the initial assessment in the North Sea Region, and Denmark and Sweden are bilaterally discussing a possible designation of the Kattegat as a subdivision to the North Sea Region. Denmark is furthermore coordinating with other MS in the Common Implementation Strategy organized by the EU-Marine Directors and the EU-Commission Working Groups etc.
