Target description |
Including MSFD related ecological objectives in MSP |
Amount of single-use plastics (SUP) will decrease on beaches by at least 30% from the 2022 levels. The target focuses now to SUP. |
Seabed litter monitoring methods will be established by 2027. |
Wastewater treatment plants remove very a significant part of the microplastics in wastewater. |
Wastewater treatment plants remove very a significant part of the microplastics in wastewater. |
Reducing marine litter. This is a main target for the sub-targets "ROSKAT". |
Waste reception is efficient and user-friendly in all ports. |
The number of cigarette butts on urban beaches in Finland is decreasing significantly. |
The amount of plastic waste will decrease at least 30% from the level of 2015. |
Finland's maritime chartographic products are included in the ISO S-100 data model of International Hydrographic Organization (IHO). Up-to-date topographic and navigational data products are available for planning and monitoring. |

Target assessment description |
MSFD related objectives were included in the Maritime spatial plans and the target was achieved. While this target is still topical; MSP will not be updated during the 3rd MSFD cycle and this target can be ended. |
Target is newly established.
|
Target is newly established.
|
Target was monitored in 3 MRUs where it was possible and the amount of litter decreased by at least 43%. |
With the wastewater treatment methods commonly used in Finland; up to 99% of the micro-waste entering the treatment plant is removed already after secondary treatment. The removal of microplastics is linked to the general cleaning result of the treatment plants. The goal is to reduce the point load of microplastics; especially near the coast; and the accumulation of microdebris in sediment and organisms. |
Roskaantumisesta aiheutuvia haittoja ei ole systemaattisesti selvitetty. Tiedot esimerkiksi roskien aiheuttamista haitoista eläimille; kuten roskien nielemisestä tai merilintujen takertumisesta roskiin perustuvat yksittäisiin kansalaisilta saatuihin havaintoihin. Hyvän tilan kynnysarvo on määritetty ainoastaan rantaroskille.
|
The goal has not been followed up. The indicators related to the goals are not monitored and even if it could be organized in the future; they do not necessarily describe the development of littering in the sea area. |
This target will be covered by the new BAL-FI-ROSKAT1-2030. |
