Description criteria
Beach monitoring is run on 12 sites. Results indicate that the highest densities are found from urban beached (2800-6050 items per ha). Similar amounts can, however, be found from some natural beaches. Seabed litter was surveyed on two years. On urban seabed 2000-5000 items per ha were found. On natural seabed only 1.1 % of the surveyed sites had items; most often in the Gulf of Finland. Threshold is trend based and no trend is yet available. Results are presented in the indicator and national assessment report Chapter 5.3.
Micro litter was surveyed in the offshore Gulf of Finland. Densities were typically ~10 items per cubic meter; mostly fibres.
