Including MSFD related ecological objectives in MSP
Impulsive underwater noise is not harmful to the marine environment.
Continuous underwater noise is not harmful to the marine environment.
The harmful effects of underwater noise on species are known and the amount of noise can be reduced regionally and temporally; for example; with seasonal speed limits or protected areas; which are subject to restrictions regarding boating or other activities.
The amount of underwater noise is reduced. This is a main target for the sub-targets "MELU".

Finland's maritime chartographic products are included in the ISO S-100 data model of International Hydrographic Organization (IHO). Up-to-date topographic and navigational data products are available for planning and monitoring.

Target assessment description
MSFD related objectives were included in the Maritime spatial plans and the target was achieved. While this target is still topical; MSP will not be updated during the 3rd MSFD cycle and this target can be ended.

The old target TIETO2 was achieved as it provided knowledge to this modified target.
This a main target and specific targets are given in the sub-targets BAL-FI-MELU1-2030; BAL-FI-MELU2-2030 and BAL-FI-MELU3-2030.
The knowledge base on the effects of impulsive and continuous underwater noise on species has developed in international cooperation in the HELCOM EG NOISE and EU TG NOISE expert groups; where new evaluation criteria and definitions of good conditions for impulsive and continuous underwater noise have been drawn up based on this.
