Target description
Including MSFD related ecological objectives in MSP
Focusing additional protection on the most valuable/central areas in terms of marine diversity; with the goal of moving towards 30% coverage of Finland's marine area (including OECM areas that meet the criteria).
The efficiency of the management of marine protected areas will improve
The areas of strict protection contain the most valuable/sensitive areas of marine biodiversity; with the aim of moving towards 10% coverage of the marine area. The old target LUONTO3 (Disturbing or harmful movement in the protected area will decrease) is ended and included in BAL-FI-LUONTO5.
30% of degraded habitats are under restoration measures
The nature conservation goals promote the achievement of a good state of the marine environment. This is a main target for the sub-targets "LUONTO".
The use of marine natural resources is sustainable. This is main target for the sub-targets "LUVA".
Disturbing or harmful movement in the protected area will decrease. The target is ended and included in BAL-FI-LUONTO5.

Target assessment description
MSFD related objectives were included in the Maritime spatial plans and the target was achieved. While this target is still topical; MSP will not be updated during the 3rd MSFD cycle and this target can be ended.
MPA coverage is 11%. As the EU MPA target is set to 30%; this target will be continued.
Management has not yet succeeded as planned. Target is modified by focusing to concrete conservation actions.
