Target description
The ability to combat oil and chemical damage has been verified. The target is ended.
Including MSFD related ecological objectives in MSP
River loading and point loading of mercury; cadmium; nickel and copper into the sea will decrease.
Air deposition of mercury; cadmium; copper; dioxins and polybrominated diphenyl ethers in Finnish sea areas will decrease.
The use of dangerous priority substances will end and their migration into the aquatic environment will decrease.
The antifouling use of copper and its spread into the marine environment are reduced.
Storage capacity for coastal oil and chemical waste has been ensured.
Reducing the load of harmful substances. This is a main target for the sub-targets "AINE".

Target assessment description
The target has been achieved. 1) The ability to combat oil and chemical damage has been strengthened; 2) The Finnish Border Guard Service has ordered new surveillance aircraft and two Turva-class patrol vessels; both of which have equipment to combat oil and chemical damage; 3) The ability to combat oil and chemical damage has been improved with a joint strategy of the government and rescue services; 4) Finland participates regularly in the joint BALEX Delta exercises of the Baltic Sea countries; and has organized national exercises related to oil and chemical emissions; 5) the level of oil prevention capacity maintained by volunteers has been extended and strengthened; 6) The marine program of measures for the years 2022-2027 has eight measures related to the risks of oil and chemical emissions.
MSFD related objectives were included in the Maritime spatial plans and the target was achieved. While this target is still topical; MSP will not be updated during the 3rd MSFD cycle and this target can be ended.
Cd, Hg and Ni loads from industry and WWTPs have significantly decreased in the past but more recent decreases are not seen. The target is continued and Cu is added to the taget.
Atmospheric loads of Cd, Hg, dioxins and PDBEs have significantly decreased in the past but the loads are still significant. The target is continued and Cu is added to the taget.
Use of TBT and PBDEs have stopped in FI and also the use of PFOS has significantly decreased. The target is continued by adding new Priority Substances; if they are agreed at EU level.
