Monitoring strategy description
Exploited fish and shellfish populations in Croatia are estimated and thus managed at the regional level (GSA 17 and GSA 18), except for some coastal populations that have been estimated at the national level and are managed at that level, given that it is mainly marine species that are shared between all countries of the Adriatic region. Assessments of the exploited populations, which include the definition of threshold values for management purposes, are performed within the STECF and GFCM. GFCM and STECF do not conduct estimates or provide reference points for all populations which are subject to exploitation in the Republic of Croatia. For all the most important commercial types of fisheries (small pelagic, demersal and coastal) management plans are implemented, and fisheries regulation measures for sustainable exploitation andprotection of renewable resources were proposed. Also, for the small pelagic fish species there is Multiannual management plan on the GFCM level which takes into account status of the stock and therefore propose management measures to be taken.

Programme description
Monitoring of commercially exploited demersal fish (hake, red mullet, Norway lobster) will be by quarterly dynamics throughout the year. The collection of samples will be carried out on fishing vessels with a bottom trawl in all fishing zones.

Monitoring of commercially exploited species of pelagic fish - sardines and anchovies, will be sampled on a monthly basis throughout the year. Samples will be collected from commercial fishing vessels, which fish with the purse seine nets in the fishing zones A, B, E and G.

Monitoring of coastal fish species (Solea sole, Spicara smaris) will be conducted during the fishing season of the mentioned species, i.e. in the winter period (I and IV quarter). The sampling will be performed on fishing vessels and landing places. Solea soles sampling will be performed in zone A, while Spicara smaris sampling will be performed in zones D, E, F and G (OG 5/11).
Monitoring of shellfish (Pecten jacobeus) will be done once seasonally throughout the year. Samples will be collected from commercial fishing boats. This type of fishing is exclusively done in fishing zone A, all collected samples will be from this zone.
