Monitoring strategy description
Monitoring programme is based on current knowledge about the quantities of contaminants and shape according to current national monitoring programme of contaminants in fish and shellfish (NN 79/2008,13/2013). Based on the results it was decided that sampling is performed once per year. The measured values of contaminants in fish and shellfish should be compared to maximum permitted levels set out in the Regulations EC 853/2004 and 1881/2006.
Coverage of GES criteria
Adequate monitoring is in place by July 2020

Programme description
As bivalve shellfish accumulate contaminants from the marine environment, the increase of the contaminants content in the marine environment can be revealed by measurements in mussels. Concentrations of heavy metals were measured in fish that are usually caught in coastal and offshore waters of the eastern Adriatic Sea.
