Description
There are 14 known non-native species in the Baltic Sea region of Lithuania: 8 crustaceans, and one species each of fish, bivalve molluscs, pigeons, polychaetes, roundworms and planktonic algae. In our waters, as in the entire Baltic Sea, there is a growing trend in the number of new non-native species. The initial assessment of the impact of non-native species on the Lithuanian coast of the Baltic Sea for the period 1990-2010 showed that the impact of non-native species varied from insignificant (BPL = 0) to strong (BPL = 3) during the analyzed period.
An initial assessment of the impact of non-native species on the Lithuanian coast of the Baltic Sea for the period 1990-2010 showed that only one species - planktonic alga Prorocentrum minimum during intensive flowering (1995, 1999, 2003 and 2006) caused a strong impact (BPL = 3) in all the functioning of the pelagic system by altering the structure of the phytoplankton community, the hydrochemical characteristics of the pelagic habitat, and the trophic relationships in the ecosystem.
All benthic macrofauna species assessed with a mean BPL (excluding the side hair G. tigrinus) have a low impact on habitats. For example, B. improvisus forms overgrowth on hard bottom and other hydrobionts, M. neglecta penetrates deep into the bottom, thus significantly increasing the surface area of soil-water contact, influencing the structure and biogeochemical characteristics of the upper sediment layer.
6 species had low (C. pengoi, Ch. Curvispinum, G. tigrinus, and M. arenaria) or moderate (B. improvisus and M. neglecta) effects on ecosystem functioning, causing changes in the trophic chain, functional groups, and the like.

Information gaps
Less information is available on the status of Eriocheir sinensis and Rhithropanopeus harrisii populations on the Lithuanian coast, as standard benthic monitoring methods are not suitable for monitoring these mobile crustaceans. Data on the effects of Grundal rubuil Neogobic melanostomies are preliminary, yet are summarized and calculated.
