Method used |
MIC-MT-MS: The Good Environmental Status identified for each descriptor constitutes a qualitative description of the desired status. For some descriptors, more than one statement is being proposed, to reflect the MSFD criteria and indicators. Reference to existing environmental thresholds/limits was made in relation to Descriptor 8 (contaminants) and Descriptor 9 (contaminants in fish and seafood), however no quantitative GES is being put forward for the first reporting cycle. |

Development status |
Assessment of achievement (or progress towards achievement) of this GES would not be possible in the short-term since baseline data with respect to marine litter still needs to be defined. Further development of this GES would also be required to reflect the various media addressed by the MSFD criteria and indicators. Therefore, this GES requires further development and is expected to be operational by 2018 (if adopted) |
This criterion is relevant but not addressed, mainly in view of the fact that impacts of ingested litter across the MSFD functional groups are poorly known at this stage, thus precluding the possibility of articulating a desired status in this regard. |
