The thresholds used are interim thresholds that were determined for the eastern part of the Mediterranean as quoted by UNEP/MAP online groups. Their applicability to Maltese waters still need to be verified. In this regard, assessment of status for this parameter is primarily based on expert judgement, in consideration of the said thresholds.
