Target description
Implementation of mitigation measures in the context of the 2012 Porpoise Protection Plan, including: - By-catch monitoring and research into the application of mitigation measures (pingers) - Preventing or reducing the harmful effects of underwater noise on porpoise populations (NB Act) - Further investigation into the effects around construction and exploitation of offshore wind farms on the porpoise populations (in the context of WOZEP).

Target assessment description
The censuses of small cetaceans in European Atlantic waters (scans 1994, 2005 and 2016) show stable trends.
The censuses of small cetaceans in European Atlantic waters (scans 1994, 2005 and 2016) show stable trends.
On an estimated abundance of 345.400 harbour porpoises in 2013 in the ICES area of the North Sea against the 2000 animals surrounding the effects of entanglement in commercial nets. The estimated by-catch rate for the area where the Dutch North Sea is included lies between 0,36-0.58 %.
At OSPAR assessment, a by-catch percentage of less than 1 % was established.
