Measure description
No significant effects on protected BHD species and their habitats.
Preventing unnecessary harm to marine mammals due to explosive ordnance disposal.
Minimising harmful effects of anti-submarine sonar signals on marine mammals.
Limiting the effects of shooting seismic surveys on protected species.
Stimulating investments in environmentally friendly technologies with respect to fishery, non indigenous species, eutrophication, pollutants and litter.
Reduction in the production of underwater noise by newly built ships.
In cooperation with the industry, an assessment framework for seismic research will be developed in analogy with the KEC. This is in line with the agreements in the North Sea Agreement and the Porpoise Protection Plan. A noise budget, which regulates the time in which impulse noise is allowed, may be a prerequisite. The industry will be encouraged to reduce impulse noise.
Support Canadian proposal for the shipping industry to more actively comply with IMO guidelines for reduction of underwater noise from commercial shipping. Participate in working group to review and update the guidelines.
