Target description
Minimising introductions of non-indigenous species through vessel hull growth and ballast water (at least a decrease compared to the previous plan period).
Minimising introductions of non-indigenous species through shellfish transport, aquaculture through other vectors, e.g. due to new activities.

Target assessment description
Indicator under development: number of new introductions via vessel hull growth and ballast water. The year in which this environmental objective is expected to be achieved has not yet been determined. Therefore, '999912' is reported for 'Timescale'. Continuation of policy support in development of guidelines and regulations aimed at risk minimisation of this vector at national (NL), European (OSPAR), and global (IMO) levels. Continuation of Ballast Water Convention policy Progress D2T1 (2018): Continue existing policy. The decrease in introductions via shellfish transport and ballast water is likely at least partly due to this policy. However, more focus is needed on introductions via ship hulls. Environmental targets have now been divided.

Continuation of shellfish transport policy 2023-2033. Implement marine/aquaculture projects within the framework of EU Regulation 1143/2014 on the prevention and control of the introduction and spread of invasive alien species. Make part of EIA and license new type of activities at sea. Progress D2T1 (2018): Continue existing policy.
