Target description |
By 2030, at least 30 percent of the area of the Dutch marine waters is protected area under the regime of Natura 2000 and/or the MSFD. The Wadden Sea, Ems-Dollard and Delta (Oosterschelde and Westerschelde) are also included in the calculation of this percentage. |
Achieve conservation objectives for habitat types and species in marine Natura 2000 sites. |
Stop the nationwide decline of marine habitat types (HD) and species (HD and BD). |
By 2030, 10 percent of the entire seafloor in the Dutch part of the North Sea will be safeguarded from all manageable human activities that have effects on the seafloor. |
By 2030, 15 per cent of the Dutch North Sea within ecologically valuable areas will be completely free of sea-floor disturbance by bottom fishing (of which 2.8 per cent for all forms of fishing). |
Reduce the impact of physical disturbance by broad habitat type from fishing activities, to at least a decreasing trend by 2030 compared to the previous planning period. |
Quality improvement for each of the broad habitat types whose size and/or quality is significant in the Dutch part of the North Sea, including areas where fishing is restricted. |
Continue to comply with the EU threshold by minimising infrastructure projects, sand extraction and fishing. |
Return and restoration of biogenic reefs, including flat oyster beds, in ecological valuable areas and in wind farms. |
Further development and testing of regional assessment methods (OSPAR) that can be used in the future for the assessment of benthic and pelagic habitats.

Target assessment description |
Indicator under development: area of N2000 and/or MSFD protected areas.
Designate areas under HD/BD (N2000) and/or MSFD, implement NSA area agreements.
Progress D1T3 (2018):
Management plans have been developed and are following their own trajectory. Some
new environmental objectives incorporate agreements from management plans, while others
are supplementary and also contribute to achieving the
N2000 conservation objectives. |
Indicator under development: Number of conservation targets realised.
The year in which this environmental objective is expected to be achieved has not yet been determined. Therefore, '999912' is reported for 'Timescale',
Implementation based on rules on Natura2000 areas in the Dutch Environment and Planning Act
International measures: all measures (existing or planned) listed in MS1 make a contribution.
Implementation of the nature restoration regulation through the implementation of the Nature Plan
Possible additional measures based on the evaluation of management plans or species protection plans.
Progress D1T2 (2018): restoring tranquility remains a priority. This environmental objective is part of environmental objective 1.2 concerning achieving conservation objectives.
Progress D1T3 (2018):
Management plans have been developed and are following their own trajectory. Some
