Description criteria |
The WFD targets are projected to be achieved. Therefore, the environmental risks of undesirable pollution effects on the marine environment continue to fall, due to existing policies The environmental risks will be even small between 2020 and 2027 and beyond. Good environmental status for most of the substances is expected to be within reach in the years after 2020. However, D8 dangerous substances have been reported with an Article 14 exception. The MSFD programme of measures provides the maximum possible commitment to achieving good environmental status for the descriptor dangerous substances, both for measures on land (WFD implementation) and for measures at sea. No technical measures may be taken to eliminate the presence of dangerous substances in the Dutch part of the North Sea. Natural conditions do not allow for a timely improvement of the situation of this part of the North Sea.

In five assessed areas, the imposex values (measured as VDS) contained in the braided Fimikhorns (Nassarius reticulatus) and Purpersnails (Nucella lpilus) are under the OSPAR Assessment Centre (EAC). In two areas the imposex values are even below the OSPAR holding (BAC). Only in two areas (Wadden Sea East and Wadden Sea West) did not find the braided ?false horn? and purple snail and therefore no imposx has been determined. In these two areas, intersex is defined in the Ordinary Alisks (Littorina littorea), a species less sensitive to Organotin. In neither of the two areas examined, intersex has been found.
