To establish bioindicators for marine litter and metrics for microplastics. (amendment of the 2012 targets ? Cont.12 and Cont.13)
By 2021, develop recommendations for reducing EPS and XPS (extruded politirene in marine litter).
By 2020 substantially reduce marine litter in OSPAR?s marine regions at levels where properties and quantities do not cause harm to the marine environment. (amendment of Cont. 6 and cont. 7 of 2012)

Target assessment description
Operational target. The measure ?living ? Determining bioindicators for marine litter? is foreseen in the 2014 Programme of Measures (F04-D10), which is at the planning stage. Implementation indicator: Selected bioindicators
Operational target. The project ?OceanWise ? rational reduction of expanded polystyrene marine litter in the Atlantic?, led by Portugal, is to contribute to reducing the impact of marine litter specifically on expanded polystyrene (EPS and XPS) marine litter (spherovites and other types of expanded polystyrene plastics). The aim is to develop a set of long-term measures, taking into account the full life cycle of EPS/XPS products for the smooth cross-border management of marine litter in the North East Atlantic area. Implementation indicator: No. of recommendations addressed to public policy and good industry practice.
Pressure Target By 2020 substantially reduce marine litter in OSPAR?s marine regions at levels where properties and quantities do not cause harm to the marine environment. Indicator: No. of actions carried out
