Target assessment description
specific targets are not set for levels of contaminants of Cd, Pb, Hg, benzo-a-anthracene, benzo-fluoranthene, benzo-fluoranthene, indene and benzo-e-perylene in the sediment matrix, as according to the assessment carried out in 2012 this contamination is estimated to be associated with particle deposition during the last two to three decades (MAMAOT, 2012a). In other words, these layers are very likely to reflect historical contamination in the region and there is therefore no additional measures under the MSFD. In view of the above, the revision of the Programme of Measures, which will take place until 2020, should provide for the application of the exception in Article 14(4) of the Directive.
