Description criteria
The impulse noise register has begun. The inventory of the sources of impulsive noise is necessary for the creation of Impulse Noise Registers on the Romanian Black Sea shelf. This inventory is a first step in setting current levels and trends, as recommended by the MSFD -TG Noise Technical Group. For D11C1, the MRU status has not been evalueated due to lack of information regarding the offshore activies, the threshold level is limited to less then ≤ 20% of the habitat of a target species for exposure geater then one day, and ≤10% for one day.
The underwater noise was monitored with specific equipment along the Romanian Black Sea coast. Based on the results the ambient noise: a maximum of 123.5 dB re 1 μPa and a minimum of 50.5 dB re 1 μPa was determined. Furthere measurments need to be conducted in order to chart the soundscape of the Romanian continental shelf. The D11C2 evaluation methodology is proposed to be carried out in the future using modeling tool as recommended by the MSFD -TG Noise Technical Noise Group. For D11C2, the MRU has been determined to be in GES and the threshold level for underwater noise is defined as: no more then ≤20% of the habitat of target species can be affected.
