GES description D1 Biodiversity
HABITATS COSTEROS: FONDOS ROCOSOS INFRALITORALES
Good environmental status is achieved when the following conditions are met : - species and habitat diversity, ecological structures and functions, such as connectivity, material flows or species habitats, are maintained and consistent with existing natural environmental conditions; - human activities and induced pressures are at a level compatible with the ecological resilience of the ecosystem. The concept of "existing natural environmental conditions" incorporates the natural variability of populations and communities, as well as that due to climate change. This implies in particular and cumulatively that good ecological status is achieved when: - diversity at all levels of life organisation (populations, functional groups, communities and habitats) does not decrease significantly, in terms of composition (number and nature of taxa, functional groups or basic habitats) and proportion (relative abundances/extent), under existing natural environmental conditions; - the spatial distributions of naturally occurring populations and habitats are adapted to existing natural environmental conditions. Spatial and functional connectivity is preserved, particularly for species habitats (all the geographical areas necessary for the completion of the natural life cycle of a species); - the size, demographic characteristics (fertility, mortality) and health status of naturally occurring populations allow their long-term maintenance and survival, according to existing natural environmental conditions; - the quality of the basic habitats, described by biotic (such as the specific composition and abundance of the naturally associated biological community) and abiotic (structural and environmental conditions) parameters, is at a sufficient level to ensure the integrity of the naturally associated ecological functions.
Ohranja se dobro stanje glede na Vodno direktivo (2000/60/ES) (dobro ekološko stanje) ter ugodno stanje glede na Direktivo o pticah (92/43/EGS) in Direktivo o habitatih (2009/147/ES).
To achieve GES there should be:
No change in the size and distribution of the seal Monachus monachus in Greek waters.
No change in the population size of the Caretta caretta spawning in the Greek coasts.
No significant reduction of the survival rate of Posidonia oceanica with time.
No significant reduction of the area occupied by the Posidonia oceanica habitat.
No significant reduction of the area occupied by the maerl-type sediments and other coralligenous habitats.
Compliance of benthic macrofauna communities with environmental quality criteria.
No significant adverse effect of the structure of planktonic communities by anthropogenic activities.
The marine environment of Cyprus is considered to be in good environmental status by the year 2020 if biological diversity is maintained. The quality and occurrence of habitats and the distribution and abundance of species are in line with prevailing physiographic, geographic and climatic conditions.
GES description D1C1 Mortality rate from incidental by-catch
GES description D1C2 Population abundance (1.2, 1.2.1)
MARINE MAMMALS: The current stock size is kept without significant decreases.
Good environmental status is achieved when the workforce, demographic characteristics (fertility, mortality) and the health status of the populations naturally present allow for their long lives and longer term lives, depending on the existing natural environmental conditions.
Conservation status of seabird populations is consistent with the Birds Directive and, where appropriate, AEWA. In particular, GES is achieved when the population abundance of key species (selected on the basis of their actual and total dependence on marine environment) does not fall below mean values referred to the baseline.

GES is obtained when the trend in abundance of Caretta caretta in the assessment area, is stable or or without reductions (statistically significant and taken into account the natural variability) compared to the present situation (provisional assessment).

GES is achieved when values of abundance and biomass in the assessment area of the species Diplodus sargus, Diplodus vulgaris and Epinephelus marginatus, which have been selected as suitable indicators for the status of coastal fish communities, are equal to or exceed the threshold value (quantitatively expressed). IT-WMS-8A04-0002. GES is achieved when values of abundance and biomass in the assessment area of the species Diplodus sargus, Diplodus vulgaris and Epinephelus marginatus, which have been selected as suitable indicators for the status of coastal fish communities, are equal to or exceed the threshold value (quantitatively expressed) IT-IMS-8A04-0001. GES is achieved when values of abundance and biomass in the assessment area of the species Diplodus sargus and Diplodus vulgaris which have been selected as suitable indicators for the status of coastal fish communities, are equal to or exceed the threshold value (quantitatively expressed)

The good environmental status is considered maintained and/or achieved when, in a given area, the number of specimens of Pinna nobilis is stable or not significantly altered due to anthropogenic causes, compared to the baseline.
Velikost populacij je v skladu z izhodiščnim stanjem, opisanim v začetni presoji (2012) ali v skladu z drugimi direktivami.
GES description D1C3 Population demographic characteristics (1.3, 1.3.1)

FISH AND ELASMOBRANCHS: The 95 % percentile of the size distribution of the fish ecotype (measured as estimated by indicator 1.3.1) is maintained, or increased, compared to the values found in this initial assessment.
Good environmental status is achieved when the workforce, demographic characteristics (fertility, mortality) and the health status of the populations naturally present allow for their long lives and longer term lives, depending on the existing natural environmental conditions.
Conservation status of seabird populations is consistent with the Birds Directive and, where appropriate, with the African-Eurasian Waterbird Agreement (AEWA). In particular, GES is achieved when the breeding success is satisfactory and in accordance to the demographic characteristics of each species.

As far as concern demersal elasmobranches the indicator 1.6.2 is implemented by the abundance (number) and biomass (weight) of piscivorous species (Troph. Lev. ≥ 4,0). The achievement of GES is obtained when temporal trends in abundance and biomass of demersal piscivorous elasmobranches are constant or significatively increasing (β≥0, p<0.05).

GES is achieved when values of species diversity (the Shannon-Wiener index, H’) in the assessment area is equal to or exceed the threshold value (quantitatively expressed)

Good Environmental Status respect to the indicator 1.6.1 is maintained and/or reached when the presence, the composition and the vitality of habitat builder species are stable or not significantly altered due to anthropic actions from the fixed baseline

The GES condition for demersal elasmobranches is achieved when temporal trend of specific diversity (Shannon-Wiener Index, H’) is constant or significantly increasing in the assesment area.

The Good Environmental Status with respect to the Indicator 1.6.2. is considered maintained or achieved when the relative abundance of the plankton communities compatible with the natural conditions, or presents a slight deviation from these conditions.
