Description overall status
Assessment procedures for food webs and ecosystem structures (D4) and corresponding criteria D4C1, D4C2, D4C3, D4C4 are not available or in development, no specific condition assessment possible. Many anthropogenic pressures are depressed in terms of quality and occurrence of habitats, as well as the spread and abundance of species. They all have a significant impact on ecosystems and food webs, the condition of which is therefore not considered good for the German North Sea waters. For the current assessment of ecosystems including the food webs of German North Sea waters, the 2012 definition of good environmental status has been provisionally assessed. In addition to the assessments under the Water Framework Directive, the Habitats Directive, TMAP and ASCOBANS, the first results of scientific indicators have been taken into account, which were used in the OSPAR Intermediate Intermediate Assessment 2017. For the following OSPAR indicators either directly linked to the food web or the species/groups with key ecosystem functions, exploitable results are available for the German North Sea waters: ? abundance and distribution of cetaceans ? abundance and spread of seal species ? reproduction rate of seal seal (number of offspring) ? abundance of sea and coastal birds ? Successful failure of seabirds and coastal birds ? abundance of sensitive fish ? OSPAR EcoQO Share of large fish ? Largest classification allocation in fish communities ? Phytoplankton production.
