Abundance estimates are provided by ISPRA, IWC and Tethys Research Institute. Aerial line transect surveys were carried out during summer 2010 and 2013 for cetacean abundance and density estimates in portion of the west Med Sea. A baseline relative abundance estimate, not corrected for perception and availability bias, have been provided but these are confined in small portion of the assesment area. Future reiterations conducted during same season, corrected for bias, and concerted at subregional and regional level through mandatory international coordination procedures, can lead to definition of subregional and regional threshold ranges for future assessments. |
