Povprečna koncentracija klorofila a v referenčnih razmerah je okoli 0,15 µg/L (referenčne razmere za Jadransko morje, ugotovljene na podlagi modeliranja). (1)
Referenčna točka je postaja 000F v J delu Tržaškega zaliva, kjer je vpliv s kopnega najmanjši, čeprav še zmeraj zaznaven. Referenčne razmere ustrezajo mediani konc. hranilnih snovi na 000F (TN 22,6 µmol/L, TP 0,3 µmol/L, NO3 1,3 µmol/L, PO4 0,06 µmol/L). (1)
Referenčne razmere so povezane z referenčnimi razmerami v fitoplanktonski združbi, na njih ne sme vplivati resuspenzija sedimenta. V slovenskem morju je referenčna vrednost prosojnosti okoli 10 m. (1)
Travnik pozejdonke v referenčnih razmerah ima gostoto šopov nad 1100 na m^2. Listi kolenčaste cimodoceje v referenčnih razmerah imajo najkrajšo dolžino (v povprečju okoli 11 cm), frekvenčna porazdelitev dolžine listov pa je ln-normalna. (1)
V obalnem pasu so neposredni vplivi obogatitve s hranili kažejo na sestavi združbe makroalg v zgornjem infralitoralu. V referenčnih razmerah v taki združbi prevladujejo vrste iz rodu Cystoseira. Referenčna vrednost EEI-c je nad 8,9. (1)
V referenčnih razmerah pomanjkanje kisika pri dnu (hipoksije in anoksije) ni prisotno, predvsem pa se ta kriterij nanaša na koncentracije kisika v pridnenem sloju v obdobju razslojenega vodnega stolpca. (1)
Za referenčne razmere značilno, da se fitoplankton preko leto prekomerno ne namnoži, kar predstavimo z indeksom visokih abundanc fitoplanktona (v referenčnih razmerah IE = 8 %). (1)
