Description (status of criteria/indicator) |
Acute pollution events are registred by HELCOME. The number and location of events are registred. There is currently no established method to assess the pressure from such events. Main source is believed to be illegal discharges from ships. |

Description |
Registration of oil spills and illegal discharges is carried out in all Danish waters. The registartion shows a concentartion along shipping routes and near ports - typically related to loading/off loading processes. Assessments are focused on individual spills. 124 spills registred in period 2005-2010. No of registred spills around 20 pr. year. |
No general assessment has been carried out.
|
No specific assessment has been carried out. Impact assessments based on expert judgement based on the HOLAS tool (BSPI) estimates show low impact. |
No general assessment has been carried out.

Description (activities) |
The pattern of registred pollution events indicate a close connection to shipping routes. Causes are often difficult to document. Illeagal and accidental spills/discharge are likely most common causes.
Pollution events from pipelines and ports are typically related to loading/off loading operations. |

Description |
Microbial pathogens are registred for marine Danish bathing water. The quality of bathing water is good for most sampled areas. The quality has been stable over in the period 2001 - 2011. Increased strong summer precipitation events may cause an increase in direct untreated discharge from waste water treatment plants or from rain water basins. |

Description (activities) |
Main contribution comes from treated sewage waste water. There is still a reduced amount of microbial patogens in the water after treatment. Future climate change related rain and storm events may result in discharges of untreated urban waste water. |
