Un total de 19 cachalotes que quedaron varados entre 1999 y 2007 (incluyendo 11 crías-juveniles) mostraron signos de colisiones (Carrillo and Ritter, 2010). Esto corresponde a más de 2 individuos muertos por colisiones de barcos por año de media, lo que representa el 0,9 % de la población estimada (con un rango desde 1,7 hasta 0,48, basado en el CI), que probablemente esté subestimando la verdadera tasa de mortalidad, ya que algunos animales muertos nunca alcanzan la costa. Esta estimación de la tasa de mortalidad solo por choques de buques supera la tasa máxima anual de aumento de la población, que se ha calculado en 1 % (Reijnders, 1997). Por lo tanto, aunque los valores exactos no están disponibles, los Cachalotes de Canarias parecen no estar en BEA de acuerdo con este criterio.
