Method used |
BAL-LV-AA- 006: The BAL-LV Principle for Good Environmental Status was based on the qualitative values of Annex I of the Marine Strategy Framework Directive and on the criteria and methodological standards of Commission Decision 2010/477 / EU for assessing good environmental status in marine waters. Based on the qualitative characterization and criteria of good environmental status, related indicators with quantitative values were chosen, which allow to evaluate the border of GES or non-GES and hence the state of marine waters. The C- section of the evaluation report summarizes the indicators used in Latvia for which a methodology based on scientific experience has been developed for the current development phase of marine assessment and the technical means are available to use these indicators to assess the quality of the environment. The current state of the Latvian marine waters was assessed on the basis of the period 2005-2009 mainly. Using historical data and trend analysis, the target value of the indicator is obtained and, compared to the average value of this indicator for the assessment period, obtains an assessment of the current state, summarized in Section D-.
