GES description
GES not determined at sub-regional level as laid down in Article 3 (5) (b) of the MSFD. The assessment under Article 8 was based on the level of risk, considering that if the level of risk is low, given the absence of anthropogenic activities, GES is achieved.
The Good Environmental State has been found to have been met since the values of the analysed parameters do not exceed the thresholds set out in the applicable legislation. The values that may have exceeded those same limits relate to very one-off and not significant sampling and events.
Nutrient concentrations are not at levels that indicate adverse eutrophication effects.
The concentration of dissolved oxygen is not reduced, due to nutrient enrichment, to levels that indicate adverse effects on benthic habitats (including on associated biota and mobile species) or other eutrophication effects.
Chlorophyll a concentrations do not reach levels that indicate negative effects as a result of nutrient enrichment.
The photic limit (transparency) of the water column is not reduced (due to increased algal suspension) to a level that indicates negative effects of nutrient enrichment.
