There are several policies that are interlinked with the Marine Strategy Framework Directive (Directive 2008/56/EC), either mentioned in the main text of the Directive, or in the Commission Decision (EU) 2017/848. In the present dashboards, assessments on the ecological and chemical status under the Water Framework Directive (WFD), as well as the conservation status of marine species and habitats under the Nature directives, are presented in a dynamic format, to allow the users to explore, use and download the data and figures in different ways.

Results of the 1st and 2nd River Basin Management Plans

Under Article 13 of the Water Framework Directive (Directive 2000/60/EC) Member States need to produce River Basin Management Plans (RBMPs) and report them to the European Commission, and those have to include the location and boundaries of water bodies, as well as their status.

Under Article 17 of the Habitats Directive (92/43/EEC) EU Member States need to report to the European Commission on the conservation status, trends and distribution of the habitats referred to in Annex I and the species in Annex II, IV and V. In parallel, under Article 12 of the Birds Directive (2009/147/EC), they have to report on the population size, trends and distribution of the bird species in their territories.
